- Does it look like your child is trying to say a word but it is very difficult for them to say?
- Does your child say words in an inconsistent way?
- Does your child have a severely limited number of speech sounds?
Children who experience CAS, Apraxia or or Motor Speech Difficulties often have a good understanding of language and know exactly what they would like to express verbally but they cannot produce the words properly.
These children have difficulty learning and carrying out the complex movements required for speech. Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Apraxia or Motor Speech Difficulties require a specialized approach to speech therapy with a Speech-Language Pathologist who has extensive training in this area. Children can make great progress when a motor speech approach to treatment is utilized.

Some common characteristics are:
- Difficulty saying consonants and vowels.
- Lost and found word phenomena: the child can’t reproduce a word on demand or on imitation but can produce the word spontaneously.
- Discontinuity between syllables: the child stretches a phoneme or separates the word in two between syllables.
- The child demonstrates an incapacity to master tone, intensity, accentuation, intonation and voice modulation to express their emotions or to give importance to what they attempt to communicate.
At Achieve Therapy Centre, we can help your child with Apraxia or Motor Speech concerns with our experienced team of Speech Language Pathologists. We offer shorter sessions that better support the unique needs of those with CAS, Apraxia or Motor Speech Difficulties.
