What If My Child Isn’t Talking Yet?

It’s never too early to be curious about your child’s communication.

As a parent, you know your child best. Maybe you’ve noticed they aren’t using as many words as other children their age. Maybe they seem to understand more than they say—or maybe you’re not quite sure what’s typical and what’s not. That’s okay.

Here are a few questions to consider:

  • Is your child using fewer words than same-aged peers?
  • Do they get frustrated when trying to communicate?
  • Are they not yet combining words (e.g., “want juice”) by age 2?
  • Are you feeling concerned, even if others have told you to “wait and see”?

If any of these sound familiar, you are not alone—and you’re not overreacting. While every child develops at their own pace, consistent delays in early speech and language can be a sign that extra support is needed.

The good news? Early support makes a big difference.

At Achieve Therapy Centre, we help families better understand their child’s communication development. We offer play-based, family-centered speech and language services that meet children where they are and help them move forward with confidence. Parents play an active role in therapy so you will know how to continue the development at home.

Let’s explore your child’s strengths, their unique way of communicating, and how we can support their next steps together. Because when it comes to communication, earlier is easier.
